November 1, 2026 — Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Older residents of Walnutport and other eligible Northampton County communities can seek help with winter heating costs through the county’s Emergency Fuel Assistance Program. The Area Agency on Aging begins accepting referrals on Monday, November 2, 2026.
How much heating assistance is available?
The county’s announcement describes one-time seasonal assistance of up to $800 per eligible household, of which up to $780 is allocated to fuel and $20 is designated for program administration. Applicants should confirm the assistance available for their particular situation when they call.
Who may qualify?
According to Northampton County, applicants must be at least 60 years old, live in Northampton County outside the City of Bethlehem, meet HUD income requirements and supply proof of income and residence. Applicants must have exhausted or been denied Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) benefits. For fuel deliveries, the county specifies that the tank must be one-quarter full or less. For non-oil heating assistance, a shutoff notice is required.
How to request assistance
Call 610-559-3270 or 610-829-4800 and ask Northampton County Information & Referral Emergency Services about the fuel program. A county aging-agency representative will arrange a home visit after receiving a referral to review eligibility. Have income and address documentation available as directed.
Why this matters for Walnutport
For older people on fixed incomes, home heating can compete with other household expenses in winter. The county’s program offers a local point of contact for qualifying residents before severe cold arrives. This is a county program, not a Walnutport.com grant or application portal.
