Would these Christmas decor ideas transform Bethlehem into a Norman Rockwell painting?

Densely-lit holiday greens would be strung across Bethlehem’s Main Street and punctuated by wreaths inset with stars.The streets on the South Side would echo that same design but glitter with multi-colored lights and other dazzling features. Moravian College’s Comenius’ Hall would be the canvas for a light show that would tell the story of, possibly, Bethlehem’s earliest beginnings.And next to City Hall, where the giant Christmas tree is decked, would loom a large Bethlehem Star designed to change colors while the entire plaza would be bathed in a soft winter hue that designers hope would feel like visitors are walking into a Norman Rockwell painting.“The idea is to make it an Instagramable location,” said David Weiner, whose company David Weiner Design of New York proposed the concept.The designs were unveiled Thursday during an open house at Town Hall. Weiner will collect public feedback and return by the end of the summer with the final designs and a more precise price tag.He is estimating it will cost about $3 million.Allyson Lehr, housing and community development planner said, the city needs to begin fundraising for the project and would likely implement the plan in phases as it secures the money. She said the city hopes to prioritize those phases based on public feedback.She said the decor is an important project for the city because of its reputation as Christmas City USA and the tourism dollars the holiday system brings. The city came up with the moniker during a 1937 marketing campaign that plays on its founding.
