Two charged in Allentown drug case, police say

Realizing he was about to sell methamphetamine to an undercover officer on Thursday, a man threw the drugs away and tried fleeing on foot but was caught, police said.Dennison Lowry, 29, no current address, and co-defendant Jahrod Kearney, 30, of the 800 block of Spring Garden Street, Easton, were charged with drug possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy, police say. The incident happened in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue, Allentown, police said.Lowry and Kearney were both placed in county jail under $350,000 bail each and are awaiting a district court hearing.As part of an investigation, police arranged a drug buy with an undercover officer meeting with Kearney and Lowry on Ridge Avenue, police said.Lowry took “a softball-sized item” from inside a Cadillac SUV and hid the item in his pants, police said. Lowry and Kearney then approached the officer, at which point Lowry revealed the item as a large plastic bag containing what later tested positive as eight ounces of meth, police said.The officer showed money to Lowry, who saw detectives approaching on foot, police said. Lowry then threw the meth 75 feet into a nearby abandoned parking lot and tried fleeing on foot, but was apprehended during a brief struggle on Chew Street, police said.Kearney was immediately handcuffed and unable to flee, police said.Morning Call reporter Andrew Scott can be reached at 610-820-6508 or ascott@mcall.com.
