Rare, risky, and complex, lung transplants for COVID-19 survivors save, but change, lives

Only about 100 risky lung transplant procedures have been performed on COVID-19 patients in the U.S., with Temple and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania together performing almost 20 of them. All but one of the hospitals’ patients who underwent the procedure have survived.
