Upper Mount Bethel’s new township manager is a familiar face in the Slate Belt town where he served as a longtime supervisor, softball coach, and most recently a Santa Claus, playing the role both locally and at a mall in West Palm Beach, Florida during the last several winters. On Nov. 8, the supervisors appointed Edward Nelson to the township’s top administrative position at a salary of $85,000 annually, but some supervisors are questioning the hiring process and Nelson’s qualifications.
