Police plan to increase patrols at a Northampton County park that was closed Wednesday due to vandalism.Liberty Park, in the 2300 block of Birch Street, Wilson Borough, was closed at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday after someone reported a tar-like substance on a children’s slide there, Wilson Police Sgt. Shane Gessner said.“The park will reopen once the slide has been cleaned,” Gessner said.Liberty and Meuser Park on Northampton Street are the borough’s two parks. Unlike Meuser, which is an open park, Liberty is enclosed with a gate that’s locked after hours, Gessner said.“Vandalism has long been a concern at Liberty, but this is the first time it’s been to the extent where we’ve had to close it,” Gessner said. “We plan to have even more of a police presence there after this.”Morning Call reporter Andrew Scott can be reached at 610-820-6508 or ascott@mcall.com.
