Like the Fountain St. row homes that flames ripped through, 40% of Allentown houses pre-date modern fire standards

Like many homes across Allentown, the 10 homes that were destroyed during an Oct. 20 fire on North Fountain Street in Allentown had features that made them susceptible to a rapidly spreading blaze. Also like the Fountain Street homes, about 40% of Allentown’s housing stock was built before 1920, long before modern codes and building materials existed.
