Another Allentown pool closed following overnight vandalism

Allentown’s pool problems continue. The city on Friday closed Irving Pool after vandals overnight threw park picnic tables, trash receptacles and an “oily substance” in the pool, the city stated in a news release. While city police investigate, a maintenance crew is scrubbing the pool walls and using absorbing pads on the surface of the water to remove the film. The city hopes to re-open the East Side pool, next to Dieruff High School, on Saturday.Allentown had to close its most popular pool at Cedar Beach on Tuesday for at least a week after the pool’s main motor was irreparably damaged by water from a broken pipe. The city expects delivery of a new motor Monday and, depending on installation and the result of water quality tests, could reopen Tuesday, a spokesman said.Mack Pool and Jordan Pool remain open. So are the spray parks at Old Fairgrounds Playground and Bucky Boyle Park.
