Allentown officials’ plan to help the Maingate Night Club reopen has been postponed until the new year. City Council’s public safety committee on Tuesday voted 2-1 to put off petitioning the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to exempt a section of the West End Theatre District, including the Maingate, from state noise regulations. If the petition were approved, establishments selling alcohol would instead fall under the jurisdiction of the city’s noise ordinance, enforced by the Allentown Police Department rather than by the state Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement.
