Some residents of the Stone Ridge development in Allen Township are complaining to township supervisors about standing water in the backyards of their newly built homes. The residents in the community of roughly 100 twin homes say the water problems are caused by faulty stormwater infiltration beds, and the developer has been unwilling to fix them.Maria Bonett, of Graystone Circle, said the bed in her backyard has “2-3 inches” of standing water that won’t drain , and that neighbors she has spoken with have the same problem.“We’re literally sitting in ponds in our backyards,” she said.As a result, their yards have become gathering places for various types of unwanted wildlife, she said. Her neighbor, Amparo Morris, a Graystone Circle resident since November, voiced similar concerns. She said the bed behind her home has “5-6 inches of water,” and has enticed stray cats and assorted fowl to become squatters.Another Graystone Circle resident, Ed Montegudo, said the neighbors were told by developer Tim Livengood of Livengood Excavators of Walnutport that the problem would be corrected. The neighbors also said Livengood has been unresponsive.Livengood did not respond to calls seeking comment Wednesday and Thursday.Township Manager Ilene Eckhart said the township is trying to get Livengood to fix the problems.Township Engineer Stan Wojciechowski said they’re holding money from Livengood in an escrow account until the problems are resolved.“He’s aware of the problem and knows he has to address it,” he said.Kevin Duffy is a freelance writer.
