Macungie man’s ‘Jeopardy!’ winning streak ends

After reigning as “Jeopardy!” champion for four straight nights, Macungie resident Ryan Bilger’s winning streak ended Wednesday night.A Gettysburg College graduate, Civil War battlefield tour guide and history buff, Bilger finished in second place with $23,300 to Sam Kavanaugh, a teacher from Minnesota, who won with $38,001. Bilger earned $2,000 for his second place finish Wednesday, giving him total winnings of $109,049.Retired air traffic controller Margaret Hamilton of Florida was third with $6,600.Though he had dominated previous episodes with correct answers in Daily Doubles under various categories, Wednesday’s rounds proved tougher for Bilger as Kavanaugh took the lead early and maintained it throughout, hitting all three daily doubles.Bilger, an Emmaus High School graduate, plans to start graduate school at West Virginia University this fall. This might not be Bilger’s last appearance on “Jeopardy!” His total winnings could qualify him for the Tournament of Champions in November.Morning Call reporter Andrew Scott can be reached at 610-820-6508 or ascott@mcall.com.
