Nearly $1.9 million in grants awarded for Lehigh Valley projects

Lehigh Valley lawmakers announced nearly $1.9 million in state grants awarded Wednesday for numerous projects in Northampton and Lehigh counties.Those projects include maintenance and improvements at the Lehigh Valley Regional Intelligence and Investigation Center; Lower Saucon Seidersville Hall remodel in Lower Saucon Township; Bethlehem Steelworkers Veterans Memorial Relocation Phase 2 in Bethlehem and money for the Northampton Community College Culinary Upgrade project in Bethlehem.The grants were approved through the Commonwealth Finance Authority, described as an independent agency to administer the state’s economic stimulus packages.Lehigh and Northampton counties received grants for the following projects:Bethlehem Township: $40,000 for the purchase of a fire utility truck and $39,783 for police vehicles.Bethlehem: $75,000 for Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course improvements.Freemansburg Borough: $51,192 for its streets maintenance program.Glendon Borough: $80,000 for Berger Road stormwater management and road improvements.Greater Easton Development Corporation: $15,000 for its Easton murals project.Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation: $176,000 for the Northampton Community College culinary upgrade project.Lower Saucon Township: $47,239 for the Lower Saucon Seidersville Hall remodel.Northampton Borough: $56,867 for a Tomcar fire/transport rescue vehicle.Palmer Township: $50,000 for a suburban EMS ambulance.Bethlehem Redevelopment Authority: $25,000 for the Bethlehem Steelworkers Veterans Memorial relocation phase 2.Stockertown: $17,500 for police equipment upgrades.Tatamy: $15,000 for security and safety upgrades.West Easton: $46,091 for Phase II of its public works garage.Whitehall Township: $69,622 for the Whitehall Parkway pavilion.Whitehall Township Industrial and Commercial Development Authority: $26,590 for the Hokendauqua Historic Preservation District site survey.Lehigh and Northampton counties: $501,500 for assisting costs at the Lehigh Valley Regional Intelligence and Investigation Center for personnel as well as annual software support, maintenance and development.
